The weather has finally warmed up, and the ice is melting fast on the pond. The water temperature is starting to get above freezing. So far, I have found one dead fish (a small one) and two dead frogs -- one of which was a whopper. At least two frogs survived, as did the rest of the fish. I suspect that the frogs tried to overwinter on the shelf round the edge of the pond, but the ice came down and trapped them. I think that I'll wait for another couple of weeks until I reconnect the pump and start up the waterfall. By then, the water should be a lot warmer and the fish should be taking more of an interest in what is going on.
